Student Chapter of the Society of American Foresters The Haywood Student Chapter of the SAF was chartered in 2003 and immediately placed second in the nation with the largest number of new members - 28. In the fall of 2005, 18 new forestry students joined the Haywood SAF student chapter. These students attend the annual conference of the Appalachian Society of American Foresters each January where they erect a large HCC exhibit and participate in fieldtrips. They raise funds toward attending this conference by selling Christmas trees, wreaths, and firewood.
